Alfa Romeo's ninety years of existence encompass some of the most important chapters in motoring history. It is a story of cars, designers, races and engines that stand as technological and sporting milestones of the Twentieth century. Alfa Romeo Automobiles is an Italian manufacturer of cars. The company that became Alfa Romeo was founded as Società Anonima Italiana Darracq in 1906 by the French automobile firm of Alexandre Darracq, with some Italian investors. In the late 1909, the Italian Darracq cars were selling slowly and a new company was founded named A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili English: Lombard Automobile Factory, Public Company), initially still in partnership with Darracq.
Alfa Romeos are still not made for people who believe driving is boring and see cars only as a means of getting from A to B.
Alfa's badge incorporates emblems from fifth century Italy. The Alfa Romeo badge is derived from the coat of arms of the city of Milano - where the company was founded some 90 plus years ago and where its headquarters still remain today. The emblem is bordered by a blue circle, and split vertically into two halves, with a red cross on the left, and a man eating serpent on the right. These aforementioned two halves are generally believed to have been the symbols of the two ruling families of medieval Milan as adopted by them in the eleventh century. The name "MILANO", the hyphen, and the lines were eliminated when Alfa Romeo opened its factory at Pomigliano d'Arco, Naples in the early 1970s.
In general, concept cars for Alfa Romeo have generally become production vehicles, after some modification to make them suitable for manufacture, and to provide driver and passenger safety.
